Let’s say on the river it is
16bb
I value bet my straight/flush
12bb
I get min raised or min check raised to
24bb

3/4 of the pot is pretty big for a thin value bet. You skew the distribution of hands that call/raise you towards the boat end of the spectrum and make sure that your pot odds don't look too great if you get raised.

I'd bet less, say 1/4 to 1/2 the pot, depending on circumstances. Then in my experience (i play low stakes, too) your hand plays like:

Its 16 on the river, board paired, you have a straight or flush.
You bet 5.
60% of the time your opponent folds.
25% he calls and mucks.
10% he minraises, you get better than 6-1 to call. You call, he'll show a boat most of the time and a bluff sometimes.
5% he raises all-in, you fold.

You gain $0 60% of the time, $5 25% of the time, break about even 10%, and lose 5 5%. Overall, you make a thin profit.

Your mileage may vary, though.

MMMV does vary. I rarely bet 1/2 pot on the river. Only if i know they have one pair no kicker, will i let them get off that easy. At the lower limits, they will call down with anything, hence, an actual value bet. Plus, just because the board is paired, doesn't automatically mean i'm scared and that my hand is no good...

if there is a ton of action on the flop/turn, then yes, i'll check through, or check call non-pushes. but if you only 1/2 pot the river when your draws finally come through, i think you're losing great value.
