Re: Oppenheim is so sick at limit poker
Yeah, that's pretty good play in my opinion.
Notice the card his opponent caught that he check-raised on - his J - he knows that didn't hit him. That's nice. I really, really like it. |

Re: Oppenheim is so sick at limit poker
Well they shuffle cards, so did he have jacks to start, or just catch the river? If he had them to start then I think he played very weak. If he caught the river then it is an interesting check-raise on 6th, most likely trying to get a free showdown if he misses or steal the pot away with air on the river if villain just had a scraggly pair...he seems to be saying, yeah I was going for that check-raise on 5th but you wouldnt bet it for me. If he was really just waiting for 5th to get in an extra big bet, then I think he made a mistake by not raising 3rd....in fact I think he should have raised with whatever he had on 3rd.....and.....string of consciousness.....over.

I don't get it. What is sick about this hand? [/ QUOTE ] I don't get it either. Having said that, I have to assume he had JJ in the hole to start, despite the FTP hole cards being arranged from highest to lowest on the show-down. Given that, I don't like the limp on 3rd street and I don't like the check on 5th street. (Although, it would be interesting to find out from him if he indeed was trying for a check-raise.) I do like the check-raise on 6th street, however. The fact that opponent catches a J and Oppenheim knows that it had no value to his opponent makes this a creative winner IMO. (I'd like this play even more if Oppenheim had bet 5th street.) I will definitely keep this ploy in mind for my own game. |

[/ QUOTE ] It strikes me that perhaps you need to vary your play by sometimes not completing on third in a short-handed game. I haven't figured out yet when to do so, which is one reason why I shy away from playing short-handed. Since there are fewer antes in the pot, stealing is less profitable, and so is defending against possible steals. I'm guessing that he is better off limping with JJ in the hole rather than JT if he is picking a spot to mix up his play, but I am not sure. As for what he started with, let's take a poll. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't get it. What is sick about this hand? [/ QUOTE ] I don't get it either. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing wrong with the limp on 3rd, but the check on 5th baffles me, as does both of Bomba's plays on 6th. The CR on 6th is cute given the hole cards, tho, and the river bet is very strong. Don't get me wrong, I think this was a WCP having some fun w/FPS in a mega-limit short game against other strong players. I'm guessing all these players are pretty familiar w/each other, and that informed the plays. I wouldn't advise emulating it in a 20-40 game. And actually, thx to OP for posting this hand. Always nice to see what the big kids are doing. Certainly generates discussion. |
