Default Foxwoods this weekend

In Providence for work Fri-Sun with a car. Dinner meetings until around 8 pm. If I get to the casino at 9 pm Friday and/or Saturday what kind of wait time will I have? How good will the games be? I'd be interested in limit up to 9/18, not sure what they run.

Also, for anyone in the know. On Saturday nite, would you pick WaterFire in Providence or Poker at Foxwoods?

Appreciate any help. Thanks, Mr. C.

Even if I was alone I'd pick WaterFire. Providence is simply a great small city and many of my fondest memories happened there (I grew up and lived in or near Middletown/Newport Rhode Island until I was 35 - I'm now 53).

I haven't seen WaterFire in season but took a daytime walk in the redeveloped area with close college friend and 2+2 poster John Cole a couple years back. That section of town is very safe and there are plenty of places to have a drink or get something to eat.

Good nearby bar: Hot Club

Music: Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel if someone good is playing.

Late night snack with funky atmosphere: Haven Brothers

Wish I could trade one night where you are versus one night within 25 to 35 minutes driving distance to every major LA club (my current location)

Going to Foxwoods on a Saturday night at that time hoping to find a decent seat sounds like hell on Earth.

What's the Waterfire?

No 9-18, they have 5-10 lhe (with a full kill) and 10-20.

there probably will be a wait at that hour, but it hasn't been horrible lately. ~20 min.

If you are flexible and can play a variety of games, it is usually easy to jump on a low stakes table while you wait for the game you want.

Friday night waitlists have been short to non-existent lately.

Choose waterfire on Saturday.

Rick-
Thanks very much for your advice and suggestions. I lived in Providence for 4 years in the late 70's/early 80's, and hear it's a very different place now. I'd heard of waterfire, but didn't know if it was hokey or cool, so I'll take your and hayduke's advice and plan to experience Waterfire.

Maybe I'll check out Foxwoods on Friday or very late on Saturday....

Those were my prime Providence years hanging with John Cole. Back then we were big on Lupo's, The Met Café, The Living Room, and The Last Call. For late night drunken eats it was either Havens Diner or the goofy N.Y System Hot Weiner joint still in Olnyville; perhaps more our cup of late night tea than yours.

Standing in line at Havens at 2:30 am surrounded by punkers, arty types, low rent mobsters and their gfs is the uniquely Providence experience.

That sounds like a good split.

It's just this event that happens in downtown providence in the summertime. They light a bunch of fires on the river. It's nice scenery, they have some music, a bunch of vendors selling stuff. They do shut down a couple of streets, so if you're planning on going to waterfire I would suggest leaving early in order to find parking. It's not bad if you know the few side streets that are good for free parking.

I live 5 minutes from Providence, but I'm not going to waterfire (too many young couples and it would drive me crazy haha). I'm going to foxwoods instead of waterfire, but it wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to check waterfire and head up later.

If you've never seen it, check out waterfire, especially if you're with a lady. If you're alone, I'd still suggest taking a walk around. You're only an hour away from the 'woods, so if you don't like it, you can still head down and play. I don't go to Waterfire much since I live here, but I'm still glad I've been. It's a really cool thing to see.

Thanks everyone. Waterfire it is, at least until or if I decide to go to the woods.
