Most profitable live limit hold ' em tables?

Hey Guys,

New to to the forum here and would like an opinion on what your views are re: Optimum number of fish at a live small stakes hold em table are ???

I have been playing $5 - $10 limit (live) at Crown Casino Melbourne , Australia and have found most games very loose passive typical of a small stakes limit game and have found tables with around 3-5 fish (calling stations) very profitable.

If you play at this level what is ur av profit/loss per hr?

i would think the more fish the better?

supposedly beating a soft live game is possible for 1.5 - 2, or more, BB/hour for a solid player in the long run.

your winrate depends on rake and hands per hour dealt and tips and other stuff too i would imagine.

You would think the more fish the better however too much of a good thing can be very counter productive as i have been on tables where its been so loose with nearly every player to the flop every hand and it becomes a crap shoot/ lucky dip. In Australia its not customary to tip dealers in fact i dont think they are allowed to take tips here. (Crown dealers get a good hourly pay rate)

Most Dealers are pretty sharp and get a high amount of hands per hr for a live game... not sure exactly how many hands per hr however they use auto shuffling machines built in to the tables and therefore get many hands per hr in. Rake is 10 % capped at $10.

Mason Malmuth wrote about the number of fish at the table in one of his Poker Essays books. Hopefully somebody will read this and have the book and can look up exactly what he says but I think it was something along the line that once you get some many bad players at a table your win rate doesn't go up by adding more...

i've played in games with 9 loose passives and with far fewer loose passives. they require different strategies but both can be very profitable.

even TAGs become fish if you adjust your strategy. as for games without "fish..." well I only play up to 10/20 live, so I have not played in such a game.

This year I'm at 3 BB/hr at 7.50/15 over about 200 hrs of play (6000 or so hands played). This is a small sample size however and likely is greater than my true winrate.

I don't know about you, but I liked playing in games where winning one pot pretty much meant I was up for the night. (Yes I have played in these types of games before)

I think this is interesting as I have read SSH several times. Now that I am focusing on playing a lot more limit than nl or tournaments, I have reread HPFAP for the first time. There are several things that are stated in HPFAP that do not go along with the theory that is presented by SSH. In SSH, the primary theme is to put in as much money as possible when you have a greater amount of equity than the amount of players in the pot. More fish mean that there are more people playing poorly post flop and as such, you will have more people calling down in situations with equity disadvantages. It stands to reason then that you will win more money due to the fact that there is consistantly more money in the pot when you have an equity edge. So for me, the optimum number of poor players would be as many as possible.
