Type of Cards used in most rooms (Esp. AC)
I am going in for a dealer audition this coming week and I practice with KEM Arrows in class, but my teacher said most rooms don't use those. What type of cards should I be picking up to practice with at home cause my paper cards are causing me to have trouble with the plastic cards for the first few deals.

If I remember correctly, the cards used in the different casinos seemed to vary quite a bit in feel anyway. I don't know the types of cards, but the Harrah's (Showboat,etc) cards were kind of heavy, whereas the Borgata's were rather light. When I was dealing at Showboat, they changed to a different type (about a year ago), and the new cards were lighter with less of a plastic feel.
Maybe someone can chime in with some specifics on the cards, but I would just suggest getting a decent plastic deck and practicing with them. That will be a significant upgrade from practicing with a paper deck. Just my two cents.

I was at Borg last night, they have switched to Gemacos as of like a month ago i guess. The dealers say they run smoother in the auto shuffler. I know showboat also uses Gemacos so I assume all the harrah's properties do. The only other place i know is the Taj. Not sure on specifics, but i know they're not KEMs as they're my favorite cards and have a very distinct feel. Anyway, hope this helps.
P.S. I'm sure you know this, but the Gemaco's are a much heavier card than the KEMs, specifically the arrowbacks.

[/ QUOTE ] We use the custom casino KEMs. Most of them are so worn and dirty, you gotta make sure cards don't stick. So don't bank on getting a fresh setup for your audition. That's okay, though, you'll soon be able to handle a gas station paper deck no problem. More important for your audition: own the table. Adjust the chair. Look around as you sit down to make sure things are good. Square the table if you have to. Be large and in charge, but not cocky or arrogant. Run a clean game. Accuracy is much more important than pitch speed.

not that it helps but a lot of the casinos here in Los Angeles seem to use Queens.

These are the cards I've seen in use in Vegas:
Copag, KEM, Stud King, Davinci, Card Club ALL OF them suck. I've dealt with each of the above and not had a good experience. Copags, card club dent and warp/fold way too easy. Both are great when they're new, but after a week, they're just terrible. KEM cards come warped in the freggin packaging lately, plus the patterns seem to smudge/break on them. I think it was 2 years ago US Playing Cards came around to a bunch of rooms and replaced them with all new decks. No difference, all were warping/bowing before they came out of the package and after a week the cards all stick together. Davinci is like playing with paper BJ cards, one bend and they stay that way. Stud King is like trying to pitch a piece of glass. They're way too stiff and thick. I've seen many cards snap from being bent too far.
