Default flush draws/big pots

A broad general question.. I read many times on this forum where we should be betting our flush draws AND at the same time "making the chasers pay" by betting/raising when we fear a flush draw. So if we're rammming and jamming when up against the flush, are we not playing right into the drawers hand? Just a question.. as what I understand to be the conventional wisdom seems a bit contradictory on this point.

This question is so frought with 'it depends' that I'm too lazy to begin. I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere.

If you're holding a flush draw, especially the nut one and/or one with a straight draw attached, you have an equity advantage on the flop vs. multiple opponents.

If you're holding a strong made hand on a 2-flush, drawy flop, you also have an equity advantage vs. multiple opponents.

When you get into big, multiway pots in limit hold'em, it is entirely possible for two different players to both be raising for value.

It happens actually happens a lot.

Think about PF.

You had AKs, someone else has Jacks, it's a six way pot, you should be willing to put A TON of bets in PF. Someone's losing, and it definitely isn't you.

A flush draw typically gains if there is a bet and several callers.

So if you have the flush draw you can gain by betting and raising against multiple opponents.

Conversely, if you have a made hand and bet, and several players call, including a flush draw, then the flush draw will probably gain. But if you are betting with a good made hand, then you may very well gain too - both you and the flush draw can gain from the people who call with weaker draws and weaker made hands.

For example, if you have a good made hand, maybe you have 40% chance of winning the pot, the flush draw also has say 40%, and two other players with weaker made or draw hands may have 10% each. Now both you and the flush draw would be delighted to bet and raise all the way to cap, as long as you can get the other two players to call along.
