how is asking out of the game when you get hurt choking?
hes pitched in a bunch of game 7's - in some he was great and in some he got lit up
Andy Pettite is know as a "big game pitcher" yet he also performs slightly worse in the playoffs- its just that nobody mentiones when he gets bombed and talk about his great games 10 years after the fact. Hes also gotten better run support than Clemens and not had his bullpen blow leads for him- hence his win/loss record.
The funny thing is Pettite was phenominal in the 2003 World Series which naturally nobody noticed because through no fault of his own they lost.

I doubt it.With Chamberlian and Rivera it would be hard for him to get into a big spot where he could actually do damage. They even have an offday b/w games 4 and 5 this year.

Clemens was pretty spectacular in game 7 in the 2001 World Series. One earned run in about seven innings, right? I can't remember if he would have been credited for the win or not, I think the Yankees scored their two runs in the seventh or eighth so he should have been. Just one game, I know, but it was a game seven on the road on the heels of being absolutely destroyed the night before.

down 2-0 clemens stepped up huge and beat arizona 2-1 with his back to the wall
Ironically if Pettite had even bother to show up in game 6 there was no way Brenly would have taken Johnson out of the game and as a result would not have been available to pitch in relief in game 7. Instead he got absolutely destroyed, Johnson was able to pitch stress free and leave the game early and come back for game 7.

I looked up Clemens' two WS outings in 2001. Pretty sick. 13 1/3 innings, 1.35 ERA, 19 K, 4 BB, WHIP just over 1.0. He wasn't going to be credited for the game 7 win, it actually would have been Mike Stanton, who finished the seventh inning when it was still tied 1-1.

If Pap is unworthy of such praise, what does he have to do to get it?

Here's the criteria I used: if you're shocked to hear he blew a save, he's a Closer. If such news doesn't shock you in the least, he's a Crumb.

If "that coffee is for closers only," this league only needs two cups (unless that kid in Seattle measures up already, I don't follow the sport closely enough to know).

Pap has pitched 160.2 innings in his career and he is established while other more experienced players need to "measure up"? What about Saito in LA?

Looking at these numbers I'd give the edge to Saito based on only blowing 1 out of 11+ save opps, vs Paps 1 out of 8+.

BTW, as much as I hate Hoffman, he is about as money as you can have in a closer.

BTW, Smoltz was prolly the most dominant closer ever and that is no disrespect to Eck and others.
