Default Silly Windows Question

I like to keep my windows very organized, so much so that I open them in a specific order to keep them in that order on my taskbar.

I often make mistakes and close programs, resulting in my windows being out of order. I probably have OCD or something but this really bugs me.

Basically, my question is, is it possible to reorder windows in the task bar? If this isn't clear, say I opened notepad then calculator. Now I want notepad showing up to the right of the calculator on the taskbar. without closing and reopening notepad, is that possible?

Thanks.

Can't you drag them on the taskbar? (I'm not on windows to check.)

There are tons of shareware/freeware available for reordering your taskbar, google "reorder windows taskbar" and you'll find tons of links...
1 decent looking freeware one: http://www.[censored].com/nerdcave/taskbarshuffle.htm... wow... "[censored]"="free#$@#$webs" without the #$@#$, nothing like a little creative censorship...
I'm not going to try it myself so I can't vouch for it's legitimacy but this should work.

i'll take a look at those for my home computer, I was hoping there was something built into windows that did this (and kind of surprised there isn't) since this is mainly for my work computer.

Thanks for the link!

Cool! I just realized I can do this with Gnome. Why I'd want to is beyond me (as virtual desktops seem better for organizing windows anyway). It doesn't work in Xfce though; rohan (my laptop) is not happy.
