Beating the B&M

I play mostly online, sh. When I play, I feel really tuned into the game and can make good reads and quality plays. When I play live otoh, I feel like I'm lost. I make bad laydowns or just get tired and miss stuff. The bad beats linger much longer and I find it harder to stay in the game. Online I'll take a bad beat and 5 mins later, I won't remember it and I'll be thinkin about the hand. When I play live it's so slow that I can't seem to get it out of my head. Any of you online players ever have this problem? How do you deal with it at the B&M?

Online you're seeing many more hands than B&M. Also you don't have real time image and audio that linger psychologically. B&M take much more patience and discipline IMHO. I use all the additional sensory overload to amuse myself by trying to get reads on people, follow betting patterns or to simply toy with people. The depth of live play is much more psychologically draining.

Some of my coping habits are trying to read hands, trying to get the guys next to me to warm up to me and expose their playing styles, practicing odds calculations, chatting with cute dealers and watching the pit bosses be grumpy old curmudgeons. I also take great pride in getting under at least one players skin. There is usually one person at the table that's way too uptight or unpleasant. My goal is to goad them into making profitable mistakes.

The bad beats part of it you've just gotta get over. I take satisfaction that when I realize a donkey is chasing the miracle card that i will profit in the long run.

I had this exact problem. But this is how I fixed it...

Practice.

It's the same thing that made me a winning online player. Play more live if you want to improve your live game. You feel lost at first, but you should get the hang of it after a while. Wish I had some trick for you, but I think this is the only way to improve.

Just stick with the online. I know it's a nice change to play in a casino. When I'm burnt out online I goto the casino as my way of "getting out". I find it much better to play short handed at a casino as you can play more "fast and aggressive online style". Honestly though.. I'm so thankful for being able to crush the games online because it doesn't look like much fun sitting in the casino for 12 fricken hours grindin away day in and day out as many of those lost souls do... and they ain't have the player and online pro is.

Only problem is that I don't have a local B+M to practice on. I only get to player a few times/year live when I got to vegas or cali for a few days.

I think its just too much downtime and slower pace. Do you ever bring an ipod or something else to help pass the time
