Getting back to OP, the reasons not to specialize have been written about in several places, inlcuding Ace on the River and Steve Zolotow's short essay in Super System 2.

The idea for high stakes players is, there could often be times where there is a great game going with weak players, but you can't play because you don't know the game.

At low limits, you're not going to find reliable games at anything other than NLHE or 4-8 LHE in most casinos.

I travel a lot playing. most pros in know in the B&M world still make their living in the limit games. Hold'em on the west coast is still the bog one on the east coast Stud and Omaha have a good number of pros.
No-limit is up and down for the true pro making it.
I am seeing more mixed games being asked for in the mid-limits.
2-7 maybe the worst game for most in the mid-limit range. With stud and Omaha 0/8 a close second

This is my first post and the first subject I might have some clue on. My father played low-ball exclusivley for a living at commerce for a couple years before getting burned out. I realize he is an anomaly. while he does play hold-em on rare ocassion he stuck to low ball because the money was so good. He also one the wsop event in 76, or 77.

The best 2-7 players I know of such as School Buss, Jew Fro, etc etc etc are mainly 2-7 players who dabble in other games. At the top of the field 2-7 is primarily specialists, I have rarely come across a guy who plays 2-7 in mostly a mixed game format who is good.

I don't know that I'd describe Fossilman as "good," but he's decent and probably makes a ton of money in his live games.

I've been a TD-primary pro who dabbles in other games for a year or so, and off and on before that, but I'm about ready for a change. Not that I ever made the kind of money that JewFro or School Bus or Chris Fargis have.

Wow, that picture is hilarious, but it is not the Billy Allen who won that event. My fathers name is Billy Allen but he lives in Whittier, CA. He played the 30-60 Low-Ball at the commerce from about 2001-2003 daily.
