some software features - fully fledged (not WAP) browser, integrated google maps and free push email using Yahoo's IMAP services (so no Exchange Server needed, as with Blackberry).

Surprised that they are still trying to use iPhone. Thats going to be an expensive lawsuit.

Available with 4 or 8Gb HD

4 or 8 GB = flash memory, not HD. An HD would be around 80 GB. Presumably they're still too big & heavy & take too much power for the phone.

huh, well this thing looks sweet. I'm just wondering who is going to buy it. like, I would trade in my Treo in a heartbeat for this thing if it would do corporate email. but it looks like (for now) it won't really do that. and it's really expensive as a consumer device that won't really replace my Ipod (only 8gb of memory) or my digital camera (2 megapixels).

like, it's clearly a sweet phone, but man that's expensive.

Apple's specs routinely underestimate battery life as tested in reviews. This may be different, but historically many or most users get more than the stated life OOTB.

By second gen, they should hopefully move beyond just the Cingular network. I'm hoping this is just a launch deal and not an exculsive deal with Cingular.

I'll buy it, and it'll be popular because of its cool factor for sure. It might not be optimal for alot of people, but it'll still be bought.
