As a poster above noted, socks should match the pants. So beige socks are OK with beige (Khaki) pants.

With jeans, I think the rules get tossed out and you match your shirt instead - think grey shirt, blue jeans, grey socks.

I'm also a girl so this may not count for boys.

Because jeans are work clothes, at least before the late 70's came along, it seems to me that white socks are always appropriate with them. Work socks for work pants. You don't see a lot of carpenters, cooks, and lumberjacks choosing their socks for anything but utility. Getting too high-falutin' with jeans seems past the point.
