This is one of my favorite records in all of sports. Not sure if I want Webb to break it or not, but either way, what he's done so far it's quite an accomplishment.

BTW, is it common knowledge that umpire Harry Wendelstedt made strange calls to extend the streaks of both Drysdale and Hershiser?

edit -- oops, it was Runge who made the call to extend Hershiser's record run. still strange that both pitchers benefited from infrequently made calls.

I was speaking in generalities about the different eras.

Drysdale in the 60's = Not so many runs
Hershiser in 88 = More runs
21st century baseball = Pretty much the highest scoring era ever as far as I know

Yeah, Orel said that when he broke the record, Drysdale was very complementary towards him and he said he respected that and offered the same complements towards Webb. Classy dude.
