Default Biking to class..enough?

I have been extremely lazy all summer because I did not have viable access to a gym but now that I'm back at school I do.

I moved in to a house about a 10-minute bike ride from campus and went out and purchased a nice little Mongoose mountain bike and have been riding to and from for the past 2-3 days.

Just out of curiousity, is just biking to and from campus enough exercise daily or should I be including like a gym workout as well?

FWIW, I'm 5'9" and weigh about 160 lbs. I'm not really concerned with my weight I don't think, more so just my build because I am fond of drinking teh beer.

According to the sticky, there's a 40% chance that the answer is "Do squats and deadlifts."

But seriously, 10 minute bike rides aren't all that much exercise. It's nice to have, but you shouldn't consider it your workout.

Take the long way home. Bike about 30 to 40 minutes.

dude 20 minutes a day on a bike riding to and from class is nothing.

it's obv better than not doing anything though. which is what you were doing.

i just started doing the same thing. its about 2 miles to my classes.

depending on the day i might make more trips, but most days ill probably just go there/back once for 4 miles total. it def makes me feel healther, and is prob all the cardio i will really care to get. but, i used to lift a lot, which i haven't sadly for about a year, and i don't think the 4 miles would be enough exercise if i didn't plan on getting my ass back into lifting soon.

I'm not making just one trip to campus a day. I usually am going 3-4 times a day so probably a good 40 minutes/day.

Is it enough to be reasonably healthy assuming your diet is decent? Yes. Is it enough to do anything else (good cardiovascular fitness, strong, look good naked etc. etc.)? No.
