weak ankles
my ankles are ridiculously weak (genetic i think as my dad has broken his 2 or 3 times before).
what can i do to strengthen them up??? thanks |

Depending on how weak they are you can do simple exercises they would have you do in physical therapy when you break your ankle.
Basic foot flexion exercises. Calf Raises would also strengthen your ankles. Try a google search. |

Don't lots of skiers do plenty of exercises to increase their ankle strength? Skaters sometimes too? I bet you could go to their sites and find some good recommendations. That's really important in skiing, from my understanding.

get one of those big rubber bands and do resistance training. front to back. side to side. be creative.
it works, i destroyed my ankle playing soccer and this helped a ton. |

Im currently recovering from a badly sprained ankle that I did, then redid a few weeks ago playing soccer. The physio has me doing a few simple exercises to strengthen the joint.
First balance on that leg and slowly dip by bending your knee, just go up and down slow and controlled. The best one is simply standing on a soft surface - carpet or grass, whatever - and balancing on that leg, knee slightly bent, with your eyes closed. Because your eyes are closed it is much harder to balance so your leg and ankle is working very hard to stabilise, it sounds a bit funny but it definitely works. Also, hes recommended that I start running in sand at the beach, if you dont already have an existing injury that might be your best method, its a good way to get fit too. |
