flatcalling the flop with a huge draw - thoughts?
villian in this heads up match is beeschnuts, he's a i think a somewhat mediocre regular who multitables HU i think. i've seen him alone on FR tables looking for heads up matches but i've never seen him play 6-max. i decided to play him heads up because why not and so far in this match, i've been pounding on him. my read on him is that he plays a pretty standard, not too aggressive but not too passive style, doesn't 3-bet much but does enough that he remains deceptive. basically nothing special. significant hands thus far:

POKERSTARS GAME #123456789: HOLD'EM NO LIMIT ($3/$6) - 2007/08/24 - 12:23:53 (ET) Table 'Isberga' 2-max Seat #1 is the button Seat 1: ipokeder ($1179.75 in chips) Seat 2: beeschnuts ($649 in chips) ipokeder: posts small blind $3 beeschnuts: posts big blind $6 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to ipokeder [Ac Tc] ipokeder: raises $12 to $18 beeschnuts: raises $42 to $60 ipokeder: calls $42 *** FLOP *** [2s 5c 4c] beeschnuts: bets $96 ipokeder: it's an unorthodox play but i think it might be pretty cool - what do you guys think of flat calling this flop? i think if i flatcall this flop then i'm shoving a lot of turns (J, 6, 9, K, stuff like that), flatting if my draw hits and flatting if i spike a T or an A. i'm going to fold on pretty much no turn card and if i hit anything to improve my hand i'm going broke thoughts (as compared to raising or shoving)? |

Re: flatcalling the flop with a huge draw - thoughts?
u can never really be wrong shoving in a spot liek this but i like your flat call if you feel like youve been running over him lately, if he knows uve been pretty lag ur less likely to have fold equity when he bets into a cordinated board. My answer is that both plays are good and you shouldnt have a standard default way to play this, i think i lean towards a shove since he only has to fold 1/10 times or so to really make it profitable (this play is almost a value raise) and since its a 3 bet pot theres already a lot in the middle yocan pickup without seeing a showdown. If it were just a normallly raise pot and were deeper i think id probably flat. raise to like 250 and call a shove.

Re: flatcalling the flop with a huge draw - thoughts?
I just shove, because if you flat and he overbets shoves say a 7s turn are you calling? Actually I like a raise to 250 better than shoving because it looks like a value raise while a shove looks like a draw. And if you shove I wouldn't be surprised if he looks you up with a hand like AK or AQ. While if he put in a small raise I doubt he's shoving over the top with those hands.

Wow, those first two hands are pretty sick...
I think flat calling there is fine. |
