I'm not sure which of the names you meant but I'm going to guess "Fool's gold". I made both names up as I wrote the post. "Fool's gold" just came into my head because I was at the point in the hand where things seemed a lot better than they actually were...

The "Big Little Gamble" I derived from CDC's earlier post a month ago, which he copied here above.

fold preflop. This hand is not profitable UTG in ANY game, even a small stakes rake-free game full of lobotomized chimpanzees.

Flop and turn are good. I can't really see playing them any other way.

Thanks for your replies.

JJ (button) actually called two on the turn and Sam (BB) just called. I didn't really have enough time to realize the trouble I was in because the river came a 2. Sam checked I bet, JJ folded, Sam kissed his chips goodbye before throwing them in.

When I turned over my 52s for the full house, JJ glared at me a bit and Sam just laughed. Sam changed seats to sit to JJ's right and for the next half hour or so they were laughing and pointing at me. Every now and again I could hear a snippet like "... raised on the turn with the worst hand...". Turns out JJ was on a flush draw (AK spades probably) and Sam had called the raise from the BB with J6 and flopped two pair.

I wanted opinions to see if my turn raise was completely spastic or decent. The comments about playing hands like that from EP were extremely helpful as well (I will be reining myself in) and I realize that even in very loose games, playing 52s from EP is an "Extreme Gamble"...

Also, does 52s have a name? If not, I nominate "The Big Little Gamble" and "Fools Gold".

Nobody can play 5-2s profitably UTG in a limit hold-em game.

Nobody.

Funny story about 52s from last night's 30/60 game.

UTG raised, total donk cold-calls in MP, button cold-calls, SB calls, so I call in the BB with 63s in hearts.

Flop came AK4 with two hearts. UTG bet, MP raised, SB cold-called, I cold-called, UTG 3-bet, we all called.

Turn 8h. I bet, UTG called, MP called, SB called.

UTG says "pair the board!" which means he has AK.

River 8d, pairing the board. I bet again, UTG calls, MP says "aw sh|t, I got a flush, I have to call."

That scared me because I only had a 6-high flush. But at showdown he turned over the 52s.

MP did not profit from that hand. Me, on the other hand...
