Perhaps you should edit your ban post to add "if you respect the rules and you don't draw attention top the fact that your a formerly banned user than chances are you will be fine to come back with a new user name (like KKF).

why on earth did you ban him?

he's not ban on sight, he's just some guy who got permabanned. you're allowed to do make a new account in such an instance. you have no reason to believe he did anything more than call one guy an [censored] once, which honestly he shouldn't even be permabanned for on one account.

not all permaban posters are ban on sight, and in fact, the chuddo, bruiser, kkf, and aejones accounts are all examples of this. while you can't create an account to circumvent a temp ban, you can create an account to get around a permaban. all permabanning means is that it's time for you to try again with a clean slate.

is it smart to make your first post on a new account "omg wtf i'm permabanned?!" no. but still, it's not like the new account broke any rules at all. the new account just asked a question.

bad ban, imo.

Mostly because of this post but I see now that Ryan was talking about temp bans.

I checked the IP, but it wasn't who I suspected it was. We had a wonderful poster show up in B&M who has 7 total posts and in those 7 posts earned a 1 day suspension and then a banning when he returned.

The other thing that concerns me about threads like this is that they are essentially large neon signs that seem to say, "Bans are meaningless, and it's really easy for the rest of you to get around them too!"

iron,

FWIW, I would have banned the guy, if you hadn't beaten me to it.

If someone is banned permanently and comes back immediately with a different name, not mentioning that they have been banned, then, no problem as far as I am concerned.

When their first post is that they were banned, then it makes a mockery of the ultimate "punishment" if they are allowed to remain.

All,

I think the poster has some valid points and this is a reason for having more guidelines for mods to follow in terms of appropriate punishment for different levels of offenses. A permaban for this is a complete joke compared to the type of stuff people get 1-day to 3-day bans for.

MH,

"it makes a mockery of the ultimate "punishment" if they are allowed to remain."

I think it's pretty reasonable to mock a system where some people post horse porn and get a slap on the wrist while others use one mild profanity and get permabanned.

Speaking within the confines of the mods' forum, I think it is totally ridiculous for any mod in any forum, including the Religious Zealots Forum, to give a permaban without a prior warning just for someone calling another poster an ass hole. Foisting the review of the plea against such an unfair ban onto the shoulders of an Admin is similarly ridiculous.

I am really pleased that iron unlocked the thread after Buzz's post, and I am hoping that readers see beyond the opening post being made by an unknown stranger that they don't actually care about.
