home game 200 BB buy in good idea?

I find that there is so few post flop play from L.A casinos because of the 20-30BB max buy in, is having a home game of 200 BB a good idea? I find that it requires a lot more thinking through the hands and getting stack off with TPTK and chasing flush draws is happening less in a 200 BB buy in game. Is this the new way to go, 200 BB buy in cash games? Or am I too biased?

Well, I think it's a good idea. Though 100BB is enough to have som play.

At 200BB, the element of skill becomes more important and can potentially hurt under-bankrolled, weaker players.

Agreed. There's a reason most home games are 40 BB. I just opened mine up to a larger game, double stakes and max 100 BB buyin, and I'm not sure yet how the dust is going to settle. Most people think it's no different at all, which makes me glad that they'll continue, but worried they won't adapt and the game will dry up (or attract more sharks).

For a 200 BB game, I think you need either microstakes with buddies, or larger stakes with established players who can manage their bankrolls.

We have a .25 .50Cent NL game..we buy in from 20-50 and after an hour of play you can buy up to the largest stack. We do it to keep the recreational players coming. It may not be as profitable for me a quality player in the short term but in the long term its a lot more profitable. Like Slim says..you can sheer a sheep many times but skin it only once

Just make it 100xBB, seems fine if people in your area are playing 20-30xBB on a regular basis.

To me, a normal low stakes home game which caters to novices and better players are as follows:

.25/.50 Buyin $25-$50 or
.50/1 Buyin $50-$100 or
1/2 Buyin $100-$200

I've got two groups of poker playing friends.

In one game we play .50/1 and a typical buy-in of $20...I find this ludicrous but they're not very serious players and I go along with it. The game is very very sloppy because you're raising almost 20% of your stack pre-flop if you pop it. It leaves no room to move, and you're basically pot committed in a lot of situations.

Our other game is a .25/.50 game with a $100 buy-in. The players here are a little better, and the play is drastically different. I find myself getting away from jacks or queens preflop easily if I think it's right because of the difference in chip stacks. In my other game it would be almost impossible to fold any kind of good starting hand pre-flop.

I really like the 200BB structure, and hopefully someday i'll find a 500BB or 1000BB game. I think the less the chip structure of the game has to do with play the better.

We changed our home game from .25.50 with a 25-50 buck buy in to a .25.25 game with a 20-50 buy in...it doesnt really matter having two same blinds cause there arent many limp pots...and intead f decreasing the blinds by 1/2..its on a 1/3

make it upcapped. honestly ppl get so scared fish will run out of all their money. who cares they're gonan lose it eventually.
