Default Stars 100k, Call this Shove or Fold?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t1500 (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

We're at 750-1500/150, and I've just been moved to this table 10 minutes prior, this is the first blind vs blind situation between me and the SB, so no reads.

There are about 50 players left at this point, average about 45k (I think that's right)

SB (t13795)
Hero (t24823)
UTG (t50207)
UTG+1 (t42816)
MP1 (t25103)
MP2 (t37578)
CO (t27178)
Button (t19973)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

insta call. unless he is an uber nit, he has a pretty wide range here.

id say easy call. If hes AK/AQ you cant give up that edge, and its likely hes pushing any ace considering his M is 4 hes gettin desparate. chances are he could even be pushing with anything considering your new to the table. yor prob gonna be a flip, but you have to exploit those 55/45 situations to get to FTs.

Ok yeah that's what I thought. One of my friends is questioning that like no other, just needed confirmation that I did was right (to call), thanks guys.

Result: I did lose the flip, but finished 20th due to some insane luckboxing when short...(see the MTTC thread in the 12-18-06 100k if you're really curious)

Why call in this position? The best you can be is 55/45 unless he has 22 or 33. And you could be a big dog if he has an overpair. I would wait for a better time to risk half my stack.

I prefer this advice to the insta-call.

You've got 4's, so just about any pp is going to be higher.
You've got plenty of stack so can wait for a better pair of cards, with bigger edges.
His range may be large, but they're all the same odds. K5 is nearly the same as AK.

Make his hand an 88, and now a large part of the desperate's range is 60:40 maybe as much as 70:30.

If I'm shortie, I've got no qualms pushing w/44. But calling with 44 is a bit different when I've got plenty of stack to be a bit choosy with where/when I call.

And for a final reason, you call and lose and you're in pushbot territory, and suddenly you're looking for a race to win. I'd rather put that off a bit.
