my friend and i are debating an issue, please help.


do almost all profitable players of SNGs factor in the pay out structure of the tournament directly into their descisions in the very late stages of the tourney? (bubble to end). in other words, would it be NECESSARY to know how to play with 3 people left of a 6 man tourney (top 2 paid) if the pay out was 30/70 versus a payout of 35/65 if you plan to win in the long run? (at about the 20 dollar buy in level and up) thank you.

also, mods or anyone who is very knowledgable in this area please add your insight and clear up this issue, thank you.

I would think that at the $20 level you could squeeze out a small profit without having a strong grasp on ICM, but I'm not totally sure if that's what you're asking.

You definitely have to take payout structure into account. However, it's going to be very hard to quantify the difference between a 70/30 and a 65/35 payout structure while playing.

However, the more the payout is skewed towards first, the more you can shove and the more you can call.
