Exsubmariner,

I don't understand why you are bringing this up in this way. The US has oil, sufficient for itself, it simply prefers to pilfer other nations oil and keep its oil in reserve!

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it has something to do with costs. It's somehow more economical to buy from someone who has too much oil and wants to sell it cheap than it is to use our own resources. But, that's just market talk. The US kills people for oil and it must be stopped!

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think it has to do with costs. I think that the US has a lot of influence on oil prices, not total control, though. I think it is a matter of strategy. The US would like to have some oil when there is little left.

I may be wrong and stand to be corrected if the US oil is more expensive (to get out of the ground) than middle eastern's. OTOH the US may have less plentiful reserves for what it is worth.

hey preacher,

buying oil from countries is not equivalent to forcefully securing oil with violence

...as anybody with half a brain should know.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, no one has ever accused me of being a preacher before.

Every market is secured by violence or with the threat of violence. It's so basic that you don't even think about it and you are certainly not aware of it. But, it's there.

The oil market is no exception. Oil is traded in $ because Nixon cut a deal with the Saudi's. Any trading that goes on, any at all, is secured by violence. Period.

It is a case of extreme naivete to not be aware of that.

How does Switzerland get their oil?
