If you are in the US it will be at least until the ATT exclusive deal ends which is what, a year and a half? Then maybe if some phone company wants to subsidize them like other smart phones. More likely what will happen is there will be newer iPhones at the same price point that do more and you'll be stuck looking for cheap hand me downs on ebay chock full of someone else's ear juice and with a battery life of 7 minutes.

when i first saw this, i nearly thought it was a joke...
people willingly purchased this product at that price and then complain when the price drops?? this is surprising since a few articles at that time stated that the price would drop (don't remember how much though) and that there would be bugs that needed fixing, but these people decided to ignore these and buy it anyway... i'm really shocked by apple comprising on something that is so standard and obvious in today's market such as pricing, but i guess kudos to them for trying to please their customers... again, lol at people feeling cheated
