Default Hollywood Park Closing the Race Track?

This is all hear say, but my cousin lives in those homes next to Hollywood Park(the closed communities if anyone is familiar with the area) and he said the race track, stables, etc., were all going to be torn down and turned into some more ~$1M homes. This is the area called the Inglewood Renaissance or whatever. I don't watch the news and did a small search but didn't turn up anything specific to HP.

Anyone else heard this?

If this happens, do you think it would affect the action at all? I know just about everytime I go, depending on the hour, there are people betting on horses that are sitting at the tables. I'm not so sure they'd be willing to travel to Santa Anita or something just for that. Actually this may provide more money in the poker and table games. I'm not really an expert on the dynamics of casinos though.

I've never bet on horses there so I don't know if they let you bet on races happening at other tracks. If they do then I'd assume the tables wouldn't lose any action at all.

Thoughts?

I have never paid close attention, but I have to assume they have off track betting here. Not sure if they would still be able to if they closed their own track though.
It certainly would be nice if the neighborhood was improved though.

HP has been rumored to be closing for years, and there is no talk of this on the racing boards. In addition, they did just invest in a multi-million dollar racing surface. With that said the land is too valuable to be a racetrack forever so its possible the sale/conversion could come sooner rather than later. There will still be wagering on other tracks but the crowds that are there during live racing season will be down. I am not sure how many of those people filtered into the poker games but over the course of the year it shouldn't impact overall action very much.

Is $150,000,000 not a lot of money? The $$/acre may be low by Cali standards but it's an assload of land.

No, my cousin is a medical doctor. He lives in the new homes that have been built recently. I assume you're not familiar with the area. If you're going south on Prairie, make a left(East) after you pass the Forum, before Hollywood Park(forgot name of street right now). There will be a ton of those communities(not projects) with little security guard stands in front to check-in. He lives in one of those.

All those apartments are 2 stories and multiple bedrooms. I don't think they have public assistance for them, but the homes go for more than $600k and there's a large waiting list supposedly.

The land is pretty valuable. I think they expected most of the houses to go for $400k but now that price is going way up. He said the ones they plan to build on the track would be $1M homes. It's really a nice area in those communities and they keep out the riff raff. It's not as bad as it sounds. Hell, it's not bad at all really.

The Inglewood politicos have wanted to develop that land for a long time...
