Re: Examples of Good vs. Bad Advertising (Usage of Models/Actors)
[ QUOTE ]
All: Every ad posted in this thread so far is horrible (barring Ayds). You will never convince me that a picture of a woman next to a picture of a product is a good ad. It might have wonderful photography, and that might make it appealing, but it doesn't make it good advertising. I've never purchased Smart Water before, and I don't think this ad will make me start. [/ QUOTE ] I don't disagree...I actually started the thread b/c I liked the Aniston pics. However, not all advertising is about selling the product (at least in the short term). Using Aniston could result in a significant increase in awareness of the Smart Water brand. It may not immediately affect sales and the bottom line, but could have a positive brand effect (this is why some CFO's/other finance people hate spending money on marketing). On the other hand, the first ad I posted not only had a beat chick, but it was difficult to identify the brand as tequila. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I was at the beach this morning, and a plane pulling an advertisement was advertising Subway. I guess they thought beachgoers had never heard of Subway, and would run from the beach in search of some Subway nearby. Worst advertising ever. [/ QUOTE ] You don't understand why this is effective advertising? Group sitting on beach is hungry. They see a banner of Subway. They were about to leave to go eat. Now all of a sudden they're hungry for Subway. [/ QUOTE ]Well that's not really the point of it, if it was, it can't be cost effective. The point of advertising is to get people to remember the name. You STILL remember the Subway ad from a long time ago. You also talk to OTHER people about Subway. This sounds like the ad was really worth it. Ads are usually designed to get people subconsciously comfortable with the product via name recognition. [/ QUOTE ] I understand the purpose of an ad. Just because the overarching concept of advertising is to ingrain the idea of a brand into the public consciousness, it doesn't mean that particular branches of a campaign can't be catered to a more immediate reaction. |

I missed this TV commercial:
but among the myriad vending machines in Japan are some Boss Coffee ads featuring Tommy Lee Jones' adorable mug. Bizarre. Boss Coffee helps you stay up all night, so you can look like this? |

Is an example of best and worst "Head On"? I mean those commercials are so annoying I never want to use that product, but at least I have heard of the product and know what its supposed to be used for... [/ QUOTE ] Hopefully they come out with a hemmoroid cream....they can call it up ass. up ass, shove directly up your ass. up ass, shove directly up your ass. |

I dont really watch many tv commercials anymore because of the DVR, but finally Jennifer Love Hugetits is modeling for hanes bras. How did this take so long? It seemed like advertising 101 to match up JLH and a bra maker.

Those David Blaine NBA commercials are unbelievably awful. [/ QUOTE ] Think of all the magic that happens on an NBA court. The way Lebron makes the ball disappear... and then reappear in the hoop. Or something. Some of the dunks he does defy gravity. He is levitating. Yeaaaaaa |
