I was under the impression it's completely illegal in china and you can't play at all.

This is just 2nd hand info, I never looked into it.

Are you headed to Macau or some other place? Also, why China?

Offshore online gambling is technically illegal in mainland China.

PartyPoker (PartyGaming) is voluntarily blocking itself from China while it negotiates for a license with the Ministry of Finance and the China Welfare Lottery adminstration.

The China Ministry of Information Industry (MoII) is blocking IP traffic to 888.com (Pacific Poker) because 888.com got a little bit too aggressive with its ambush marketing last Autumn when 888.com signed Mandarin Chinese-speaking snooker sensation Ding Junhui (who competes in the UK) to a sponsorship contract and 888.com launched a version of its website in Simplified Chinese.

FullTilt, PokerStars, UB, etc. are all currently "flying under the radar" so they are not being blocked by the MoII.

Haha, blocking IPs - true to the Chinese censorship style. Just be careful, if you get a warning from any sorta gov't official local or state, I'd send them a batch of cookies, destroy the hard drive and buy a brand new one. You don't wanna get caught up over there, you may go into the dark for the next 20 years.......think Tank Man.

Article 303 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China prescribes that those who are involved in gambling, setting up casinos and making a career of gambling for profit shall be sentenced to not more than 3 years' imprisonment plus a fine. Therefore, suspects like Fu Xiangrong who embezzled hundreds of millions of yuan of public funds will be sentenced to no more than three years in jail.

I suppose that Gambling "foreigners" are simply thrown out of the country.
I know one french guy in guangzhou who fought with a chinese policeman ( of duty ) he's simply banned from the city not even the country.
According to friends chinese laws are hardcore for chinese people not so much for visitors ( unlike in thailand )
