Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist
[ QUOTE ]
Beer often gets skunked because green bottles let in more UV light than brown bottles. This goes for clear bottles as well, and is why Corona is horrible. [/ QUOTE ] NO WAI |

I drank a ton of it over the summer. It's now one of my favorite beers. Hey beer snobs dogging on bud light, let's say you were to recommend some watery American light beer. What would you go with? Obv not bud light, miller light? coors light? I'm curious as to what you think. |

I might give you something to try that's a little different than these, but that you might still enjoy. Try a bottle of a Saison. I don't know where you're from, but Ommegang's Hennepin (NY), Southamption's Saison (NY), and Flying Dog's Wild Dog (CA) are all good. They pack about twice the alcohol of a watery American light beer and taste better without being too sweet, heavy, or dark. The three I listed all come in brown bottles, though. |

DDY,
Brooklyn lager, if you can get it. Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, if you can get it. Those are great lagers, so they're light on the palate, and while their flavor is great, it's also subtle. Wookie, The folks at Flying Dog would be pretty upset if you labeled them as nutty Californians. |

Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist
I had no idea Heineken had such a bad rep amungst the beer snob crowd. Whats a better version of that i should try if i like Heineken Premium Light? Something i can find somewhat easily.

Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist
4,
Most of the Czech pils listed in this thread are good beers: Staropramen, Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, etc. If you're in the midwest/Great Lakes area, the Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold is excellent. If you're in the NE, Brooklyn Lager is also a really good beer. The American craft brew scene is so much more focused on ales than lagers there isn't nearly the diversity you might expect to find, but Brooklyn is probably the best combo of availability and quality that I've seen. You're always rolling the dice to some extent with Euro imports because of both the transit and the tendency to use green bottles, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent Lowenbrau/Urquell/Spaten. Heineken isn't really bad, it's just "blah" in comparison to a lot of other beers in the same style. I doubt even beer snobs would say that a BMC is actively distasteful, it just doesn't taste like much, and they'd rather spend an extra buck or two getting more flavor out of their beer. If you like Heineken because its quaffable, gives you a buzz, and isn't a liquor drink, that's fine. But whatever you do, buy it in cans, not bottles. |
