Two thoughts a lot of this has to do with who the "hip-hop" athletes have advising them. You would never see Peyton Manning have a dog fighting incident because if he did he has enough smart people around him to tell him that its a [censored] terrible idea.

I think the bigger problem isn't the hip hop culture but you have a bunch of young people who never really had money and know have tons of it, of course they're going to do dumb [censored].

Sidenote on a pet peeve of mine:

The term is such politically correct BS that ignores that
A) Black people come from places other than Africa
B) That if you were born in America, you're an American, period.

I'm with you on this.
Hyphenated-American. If America goes to war with that country, where would your loyalty lie?

obv it would lie w/america but you are missing the point. i'm not disputing my nationality. the "____" in "____"-american takes race and ethnicity into account. yeah i'm american, but i'm also black/african-american whatever you wish to call it. given that i am a minority, merely saying that i am "american" is not a completely accurate classification. we are talking about the effect of different races/cultures within a nation, so it is perfectly legitimate for me to identify myself as being a member of a specific culture.

would it have bothered you had i said "black" instead of "african-american." if not then you have no case b/c african americans are just a subset of black people. if so are you suggesting that the fact that i am black bears no relevance b/c "at the end of the day we're all american"? i really hope not b/c that is just naive. no, it shouldn't "matter" that i'm black, but you do not need to be overly pc to the point where i cannot reference myself as being black/afro-american/etc.

i'm confident that regardless of their current location, black people can be traced back to africa.

Awesome, insightful post. I had no idea Africa was a country until you pointed that out.

Blame ESPN.
Who's the better receiver, T.O. or Marvin Harrison?
Who gets more airtime?
ESPN rewards poor behavior.

[/ QUOTE ]

Marvin Harrison also hasn't ripped his QB, got traded, tried to kill himself etc.

Like it or not, Marvin's just not as newsworthy.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd say its douches who agree with this who make it the problem. Think about what newsworthy means.

I can see where Dids is coming from, and I think using the term "douche" is a little strong. Media do tend to have sensationalist bias, and TO certainly does more sensational stuff. In all, it's about what gets the fans' attention, and like it or not TO wearing a Discovery Channel bike suit while on the stationary bike at practice gets more attention than Marvin being his quiet self and having productive preseason practices.

I guess life is not fair.

EDIT: typo.

as an african-american who attended one of these schools i can assure you that this is true. i attended a private school where the student body was ~9% african-american,

Why do you identify yourself as an African-American? Unless you were born in Africa(ignore if you were) then you're no more an African-American than I am an Irish-American.

i reference it as such b/c that is how it is commonly referenced. also, the term black includes various caribbean nations which do not fit into the same ethnicity as me.

edit: agree w/jay and nt

edit2: feel the need to reference it b/c of the history of african americans in america. do i really need to explain any further?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tar, I didn't know you were African American. This may be a problem in The Lounge. Didn't you read our charter? I'll have a word with the higher-ups, though, and see what I can do.

God this thread is getting soo idiotic. People in general want to see drama and controversy which is obviously why TO gets soo much air-time. It's got nothing to do with rewarding poor behaviour (though this is kinda an unfortunate by-product), its just giving the viewing public what they want to see.
