Default SH PLO $100 scary raise from tricky player

This has been a full table up until very recently. Havent observed much from villain, but he seems to be good and somewhat tricky. Should I:
1) check behind on the river with my straight
2) Value bet, as I did
3) Pot it
And given that I bet as I did, do I have to call the checkraise?

Why call the flop raise? Seems like your hand isn't very good and you have a few outs to second best hands.

Raise preflop, as played definitely call river.

Close second preflop is fold. As I read it, you make the river bet hoping to induce a bluff or an attempted thin-value-raise, in which case you should call. Whether that was a good idea is very opp dependent, and against someone who you know is shy about a pot going check-check when they have the nuts, it could be automatic. I find that is actually true of a substantial number of "tricky" players. That said, my play with stacks your size is to mix between potting river and just checking behind.

I don't really have a problem with the flop call if the opp is tricky but you have good control of them. In these short-handed pots, a mediocre hand in position can be a monster, but you have to have a lot of faith in your ability to play later streets.

Youve advised me to fold preflop and flop. I could see an argument made for either raising or folding preflop. I think that folding preflop and giving up to a checkraise on this flop when I have position seems to be a little weak/tight for three handed play, but I dont have a lot of experience with SH PLO. If you DO and you say im being too loose than ill believe you.

Point taken on the preflop and river play.

this is going to reveal how bad i am at this game:
I was actually betting for value hoping to get called by a big two pair or set. The idea that he would check a straight to me on the river barely crossed my mind until I was facing a giant checkraise.

If I were to pot the river and get checkraised would I fold then? and if youre the villain, whats the thinking behind your river play?

If you dont know your opponent that well I would want to get to know him a bit more before playing so hard on a marginal hand.
