Default Learning Omaha is brutal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1/2 pot limit omaha high

I'm just trying to learn this game, so in other words I spew chips like no other sometimes....on to the hand.

4 handed game. 3 players involved.

Hero raises K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] to $7, A regular in the game (villian 1) calls on the button, Shortstacker($122) calls from the sb.

Flop($23) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Shortstacker checks, Hero bets $23 with top set, Villian 1 raises to $92, Shortstacker calls, Hero ? (calls right?)

I just never no what to do here. Its pretty obvious one of them has a straight here but it seems so weak to fold this flop. Maybe a better plan would be to just check, call flop? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I dont think this is an obvious fold. Its an odds question. Most of the time top set does very well when both other guys have the nut str8. But if the reg is signifigantly deep, its a fold.

Unless the villain is a nit I push because he's in the perfect spot to raise pretty wide.

Your opponent does not put you on a hand as strong as top set on that flop so if he is useful, will try to raise you off the pot. Unless he only ever raises with the nuts here, reraise him all in. Expect to see middle or bottom set occasionally, or a nut flush draw with a pair.

Two comments. If you are learning the game, you may want to try lower limits to begin with. If you call, you will have committed 1/2 your stack on the flop, and probably have to commit the rest on any non spade. I agree with the others that your set of 9s is probably good. Push and pray.

i think if you run the numbers on this hand it really dosent matter how you play it it will have a very marginal EV either way. i think SS has either the nut straight or a big draw to it with flush maybe.

Villan could be raising for value but this is a dangerous flop to be doing that with a cont bet out and a player still to act.

i think my prefered line is to check the flop and make my decision when i have a little more info, but the hand is so marginal over the long term im not sure it matters

I think you find villain with 3 pair or lower set also. Not always a flip.

Even if one person has 86xx and the other guy has a flush draw, the worst believable spot I could come up with gives you like 33% equity, which makes pushing this edge about break even. I would definitely go with it, though, for the same reasons Ribbo and TheRempel said. You don't have to see the nuts + NFD here, and could be getting it in +EV as opposed to 0EV. This is definitely a spot where I'm crossing my fingers and shoving. Omaha variance, take me away!
