This may be a silly question, but do you have any USB devices connected to your PC during bootup (like an iPod)? If so disconnect them all and reboot.

Thanks

So the problem seems to be a USB keyboard I have started using with my notebook. Is there anything I can do to remedy the situation?

Go into the CMOS under the boot up sequence option and set your BIOS to only enumerate your HDD during boot up. Disable all other devices during bootup. I have an Inspiron 6000 and am able to do this in my laptop's CMOS. I don't imagine that your CMOS will be any different. This should do the trick.
