not in the usual obesity way either - specifically, it's a preserative - sodium benzoate - that may cause certain key parts of the DNA to switch off. Apparently some soft drinks in the UK were pulled because the stuff creates benzene when mixed with Vitamin C

ingredient in soft drinks may do damage to DNA

if this is true, that would explain the premature grey and my tendency to believe my life will be over before I'm 40 -

I've quit a lot of things the last few years, but don't think I'll be able to give up soda - grrrrrr...
