If looks aren't a big deal why are they going around bragging about how good-looking their girlfriends are?

I understand that a lot of guys don't really care about looks that much or have low standards, but that's not really who I'm talking about here. It's guys who are always saying stuff like "Yeah, my girlfriend went to the bar last night, I hate when she goes without me because dudes hit on her all the time" and similar passing references to their girlfriend's supposed hotness when the rest of us are looking at each other like "WTF, that chick is nasty"

Every girl is prettier when you like her, too. A woman with a lot of energy and personality or who's really cool to you can really become beautiful to you over time.

And vice-versa, a real beauty with a bad attitude or lifeless eyes can just exude ugly.
