Beat: Supposedly my college has banned online gambling

So yeah, I get this email from my campus housing bastards.

Residents of Campus Housing,

A question was recently raised to staff in our office about weather or not online gambling is permitted on campus.

According to the Public Safety office and the WI Attorney General's office, "any online gambling done in Wisconsin is illegal under WI Statute 945.02. The only legal exceptions are State approved lotteries/raffles or on a Native American Reservation. Internet based companies accepting bets are also in violation of WI State Law."

According to the Information Services office, the Network Acceptable Use policy states: "The network may not be used for any activity, or to transmit any material, that violates United States, Wisconsin or local laws. This includes, but is not limited to, fraudulent acts, violations of copyright laws, and any threat or act of intimidation or harassment against another person."

* According to the Housing Handbook, page 20 states: "Gambling of any kind is not permitted in University housing facilities."

Please know that it is our hope to have the campus provide some educational programming for students on this topic in the near future. If interested, please watch for campus advertisements promoting upcoming programs and activities offered on campus.
