My wife is a nurse (manager) works 2 16 hours shifts and 1 8 hour shift a week. No weekends, holidays or overnights - never works a morning following a 16 hour shift. i.e this week she works today 7am-11pm, tomorrow 3pm-11pm and friday 7a-11p. Each week "flips" so that she has a 4 day weekend every other week.

I'd take her schedule in a heartbeat - I think its awesome. Dealing with patients, patients families, death etc.. makes me like my 5 10 hour days a better overall deal for me.

worrying about the specifics is just your insecurities and ego projecting themselves. truth is, after you can take care of the basics, all that matters is how much you are getting out of what it is you do. the rest are all distant 2ndary concerns.
