Default I turn a straight, but river pairs the board (200NL 6 max)

Villain is running about 28/12. No other reads.

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

Hero checks,

Here is my thinking. I really hate that board pairing, but the only hand I can see that helping is 88. 99 is very unlikely, since I have a 9 in my hand. And I would think a 25/12 Re-raises JJ. I think I am ahead here.

I decide to check for a couple reasons:
- I think the only better hand a bet gets to fold is a hand with a Ten in it.
- A check may get two pair to bet, or induce a bluff from a busted flush draw, which is what I think he more than likely has.

So I checked with the intention of calling any bet. You like?

Hands you beat are way more likely to call a bet than bet themselves imo. Also flush draws aren't a huge part of his range here tbh and don't all that often try to bluff the river.

what does "tbh" mean?

Also, why wouldn't Flush draws be part of his range? I see people min-raising flush draws on the flop all the time.

You really think J9 and 98 call a 3/4 pot bet with the turn and river pairing? I don't think so.

turn c/r won't work unless you're dead to QT. the kind of guys who minraise flush draws check behind on the turn when they brick. he may even check pure air again because so much of your range is two pair/straight at this point.

c/c river is asking to get owned. b/f is far better.

bet/fold here is critical. If he has a set, no matter how you played it you were gonna lose money. If you check/call you give him the choice whether he thinks he can push you off a T or not (if he actually has a worse hand).

If you bet/fold, you make him less likely to bluff (if he thinks at all) because part of your range will be a full house as well as a ten or queen-ten. When he's raising, you know you're beat, and you get to choose how much you want to lose on the river.

i dont see what b/f here accomplishes. few, if any, worse hands are calling with a straight THAT obvious. id check with the intention of calling here. you might get some value by bluff inducing.

Jay, i think you're saying check call is bad, which i agree with, but im not really sure what line i do take. i dont think check/fold is terrible, but what do people think about a blocker bet of like 80 and folding to a raise? i cant really see villian bluffing there.

and to the poster above, i think a turn check raise is pretty bad, if he has a flush draw or probably even a set, hes checking behind most times.

whoops, everyone beat me to it, you guys are fast.

no, playing a full house like this is nonsensical.

but you are right that pretty much nobody would try to bluff anyone off a ten here, though

dragon, i think at this level most people are using level one thinking. until you see evidence to the contrary, assuming people arent going to bluff at scary boards like this seems pretty safe.
