Default Dealing in the WSOP

hello all, long time lurker first time poster. my friend and I are experienced dealers in a casino in Indiana(2 years). we're interested in dealing in the WSOP, all the events, not just the main event. does anyone have any experience dealing the WSOP from past years? i'm looking for information like, how much money can be made, how does one go about getting the job, etc..

thanks for any help.

I'd suggest contacting Harrahs.

I don't know how much dealers make from the WSOP. I have heard various rumours which I won't spread. I have also heard it will be less than last year due to some changes.

Harrah's is hiring 800 dealers in total (no idea how many they have) and are doing auditions now. I will be going down to do mine in about 2 weeks.

BTW, if you need a place to stay during the WSOP. I just moved out of a week to week boarding house type of place that had really good rates and I could definately recommend you to them.

If you're dealing and keep your own tips I suggest staying that way. I don't know how much they usually make(their money is based on whatever the winners tip so if *ahem* certain players won it you might end up totally getting screwed) but I can't see it being THAT much more that it would be worth it to go from Indiana to Vegas just to deal.

Well thats not exactly true at leats last year. The Dealesr did not get 3% of the prize pool, because 1/3 of the tokes (including the 3% witheld went to the Floor/Management). I understand that there are some changes coming this year that may alter this equation.

As far as making a lot of money, it depends on some variables, remember WSOP dealers are also dealing the cash sidegames. So depending on what shift you get, and even within a shift what place in the rotation you get your results will vary.

In addition some of the things I have heard may be happening this year would definately have a negative impact on dealers pay (I am not inclined to discuss these specifically because although I have a reliable source I can not confirm what I have heard - but dealers should be aware that there may be changes coming)

Let's do some back-of-the-envelope calculations using incomplete data for just the WSOP main event. Let's go with the dealers getting 2% of the prize pool. There were 5800 entrants last year putting $1.16M of toke money into the pool. There were 3 first days which ran from about 11am to 2:30am. They started with about 196 tables each day and ended with about 64. This part gets fuzzy but let's just say they averaged 150 tables for 14.5 hours (that assumes the rate at which people bust increases during the day). That's 6525 table-hours they needed for the three day 1's. Logical day 2 (physical day 4) started with about 190 tables and ended with 64 after 13 hours of play for another ~150*13 = 1950 table hours. Day 3 ended with 185 players at 21 tables after 13.5 hours so lets call that another 50*13.5 = 675 table hours. Day 4 ended after 13.5 hours with 58 players so I'll go with 17*13.5 = 230 table hours. Day 5 ended with 27 players after only 10 hours so I'll pick 6*10 = 60 table hours. Day 6 saw 3 tables become 1 after 15 hours = 75 table hours. And the final day lasted 15 hours. Add it up and we get 15+75+60+230+675+1950+6525 = 9530 hours.

9530 hours sharing $1.16M. That's $121.72 per actual hour at a WSOP table. Obviously that's not gonna be $122 per hour at work since the dealers take breaks and certainly after logical day 2 most of 'em are no longer needed. But the basic hourly compensation for the main event looks pretty sweet to me, even if the rumors of the final table toking almost nothing are true.

Don't really wanna do this all over again for the smaller tourneys, but I doubt it'll come out nearly as sweet for the $2000 sorta events. And I have no clue what kinda tokes they got for the side games and $500 daily tourneys and $200 daily tourneys and the single table tourneys and the super sats.

The tips at major tournaments is such that management is alsways looking for a way to transfer some of the money to themselves and the players that hear what the dealers make (this info sometimes leaks out) get really upset that the dealers make that much.

You need to recalculate.

If they made that much per hour then every dealer and their brother would be trying to get gigs there.

This does not happen. Not even close.

the WSOP had a lot of rookie and very slow dealers working there. Fresh out of training for many of them as best I could tell.

Some were decent... but others were just not very good at all.

Your calcs for example: They have 1 dealer working for a down at the final-table. He doesn't just keep HIS money for the down. It's split a few hundred different ways.

I don't know how better to explain that the way you did this is just plain incorrect.
