The U.S. used to have (and they are still legal tender if you can find them), bills in the following denominations: $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, and $100,000. (Although the larger notes were really just used for bank transfers in teh age before checks and electronic transfers). If you don't believe me just look it up on wikipedia.

You know that higher education is free in most of Europe, don't you?

(The Euro's been rising steadily since GWB became president, but 100 dollars isn't quite 20 Euros yet - more like 70.)

Also, I saw a real thousand dollar bill (a few actually) in the early eighties - being wagered on a game of straight pool.
