Default Colt Brennan for Heisman? Seriously.

Credit to this thread on Front Office Football Central for putting this guy on my radar.

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT

2006 199 273 2601 72.9 9.53 63 28 5 12 183.10</pre><hr />

He also has 40 carries for 131 yards and 2 TDs(remember his 12 sacks are counted against his yardage in NCAA).

Brennan is the run-and-shoot QB for Hawaii. Run and Shoot offenses are legendary for inflated QB yardage and touchdowns, but in this case Brennan has been superbly efficient even with opposing teams gearing for the pass on every play. I think he even has a shot to break the all time QB Efficiency rating.

The bigger mark against him is he hasn't played top competition. Fair enough, but consider his games against Alabama, Boise State and Fresno State(all road games):

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> -- PASSING -- -- RUSHING --
DATE OPP RESULT CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT ATT YDS AVG LNG TD
9/2 @Alabama L 25-17 30 44 350 68.2 7.96 32 2 1 2 97.7 6 3 0.5 9 0

9/23 @Boise State L 41-34 25 36 388 69.4 10.78 37 5 1 2 132.9 4 17 4.3 11 0

10/14 @Fresno State W 68-37 32 39 409 82.1 10.49 47 5 0 1 149.9 7 43 6.1 18 0</pre><hr />

At the very least, the guy deserves an invite to the ceremony.

He won't be considered because he plays for Hawaii.

True, but he should be. I think if he continues putting up these numbers next year they can't ignore him.

I addressed this in the OP. Here are Timmy Chang's stats:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2003 353 601 4199 58.7 6.99 72 29 20 21 126.69
2004 358 602 4258 59.5 7.07 75 38 13 14 135.39</pre><hr />

Compare those to Brennan. Chang cannot carry Brennan's jock.

I do find it strange that 1.7% of starting QB's in Div 1, is named Colt.

Even stranger--at the beginning of the 2006 NFL season, 1/8 Starting QBs had a relative who was also a starting NFL QB(Vick/Aaron Brooks and Manning/Manning obv).

if Hawaii had beat Bama, I would've been in agreement that he is a serious contender.

The Heisman is heavily tied with team success and Hawaii just doesn't have enough.

18/29 413 yds 6TDS 1INT today vs Utah State couldn't have hurt

Hawaii is 7-2 and getting votes in all 3 human polls, so they could presumably be top 25 by the end of the year... this guy has to get some consideration doesn't he?
