T There are so many nits that seem to be so happy with the simple stuff in life (going to lunch, reading the paper, etc etc) but I cannot find excitement in any of that.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like middle life crisis to me, depression, whatever.

Itīs all about attitude and the been-there, done-that is not going to help.

Start therapy to know yourself better and probably discover what is really bothering you.

Conundrum:

1. a riddle, the answer to which involves a pun or play on words, as What is black and white and read all over? A newspaper.
2. anything that puzzles.

You ever try Zen Koans instead of Christian Halleluja?

[ QUOTE ]
There is no point in thinking about the purpose of life, cause there is none, really.

[/ QUOTE ]

I love this honesty...its all pretty much sheer folly when you think about it.

[/ QUOTE ]Let's face it, life can be very mundane, and for the most part, boring. Sure, there can be temporary satisfactions, but nothing in this world will ever keep a person permanently satisfied. But, to assume just based on the things that we can see and touch that there is no meaning or purpose to life is sheer madness. There has to be a purpose beyond temporary pleasures; there is more than meets than eye.

This is a problem I've dealt with for a long time. There are so many nits that seem to be so happy with the simple stuff in life (going to lunch, reading the paper, etc etc) but I cannot find excitement in any of that. Poker helps give me something to think about, and occasional sex or whatever is a nice diversion but for the most part I'm pretty bored most of the time to the point of just wanting to die. Every day is the same, no matter how hard I try to make it more interesting. I eat, think, sleep, and chit and that's about it....Maybe some poker in there maybe a little pussy or whatever but what's the point of it all really? I tried christianity to add excitement and give me a purpose to perk me up all day but its just religion and i didnt really like church.

So my question is, am i the only guy who is bored to tears everyday and struggles not to just jump off a building to rid myself of this feeling?

Thanks, and no I'm not suicidal or anything. I dont have the balls to kill myself, frankly.

Indy

You just summed up my thoughts exactly.

I wish I could get out more and have a life, but I have zero social skills and feel uncomfortable around people to the point that I can't even talk to them or even stand their prescence wheter they interest me or not.

But i think having good friends and a relationship is key to happiness in life. Going it alone is very difficult I can't take much more of this lonliness. Im the biggest loser, may god help me and you too my friend.

I guess I'm just trying to gauge if everybody feels like I do about life. I'm not so depressed or anything but I get bored....

You are depressed, that is clear, it is fortunatly not very severe.

To answer your question, yes, I have the same problem to some degree off an on. Every day, week, year seems like the same old thing. I would guess you would be a decade or two younger than I am. I'm, now let me see, what year is this '07 and I was born in '54, 53 years old.

It has been worse in the past. When you start sleeping 12 hours a day just to avoid the pain of living, then you have a major problem. If you still enjoy occasional sex, your depression is mild.

The part about christianity was novel and a bit amusing. As the son of a minister, I am sure I would not have even considered doing that.

Your problem is mostly biochemical, steming from an inadequate production of a nurotransmitter called seratonin. If you were to ingest a moderate quantity of a seratonin emulator, you would experience an immediate (about 20 min.) but tempory (about 10 hr.) aleviation of your problem. The best seratonin emulator I know of is LSD.

I could tell you how to address the problem, but you probably wouldn't listen. But just on the off chance that you might, here are the steps I would recommend:

Go to the post of "Bones" above and right-click on the avitar image. Click on "Copy Image Location". Open a new window and paste the URL in the address bar and hit return. Now don't you feel better now?

The best solution I have ever heard is to get a book called, "Feeling Good" by David Burns. It is a workbook like HOH3. This will take a while but it is definately worth it.

If you don't have the time for that, try getting more exercize. I got an electro-assist bike. There are several relavant links at My Home and Leisure Page. Use it for all errands under five miles. The atmosphere doesn't need the pollution from short trips.
