Default Fold or Call? Satellite to Stars $615 WSOP

I'm about 12 of 17 left in a $80 Satellite to the $615 WSOP Sunday Satellite with 10 getting seats.

Crankyman was pretty solid and hadn't made a ton of moves,
but had re-stole a couple times before. I was probably the perfect target for a re-steal from him based on my stack size and image, but even if he doesn't have a premium it was still likely a race. Take a race to put myself in a position to essentially guarantee a seat or fold to not risk getting knocked out this close? In a normall MTT, I'm probably calling here to put myself in a position to win.

Blinds: 200/400 + 25

Seat 1: hdtv (15862 in chips)
Seat 2: DP388 (6475 in chips)
Seat 4: gatormark (6738 in chips)
Seat 5: bower4 (1113 in chips)
Seat 6: dibsy (13479 in chips)
Seat 7: crankyman (7579 in chips)
Seat 8: macattack4 (1961 in chips)
Seat 9: jdepa01fcp (6206 in chips)

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to DP388 [8s 8d]
hdtv: folds
DP388: raises 800 to 1200
gatormark: folds
bower4: folds
dibsy: folds
crankyman: raises 6354 to 7554 and is all-in
macattack4: folds
jdepa01fcp: folds
DP388: ???

This close in a sat? Clear fold. You are not looking to accumulate all the chips, only enough to finish 10th or better. Wait for a better opportunity and let a few others bust out first.

This one's probably close pot-odds wise - you're getting about 3:2 and figure to be about that to his range. Regular tournament I'd lean towards calling, this stage of a satellite I'm gonna lay it down to a "solid" opponent and see how things pan out.

Your M was about 7 and his M was about 8. Medium pairs are tough. This guy really didn't have to get involved yet so he probably had something. only 6 pairs bigger than yours and lots of over card possibilities. Probably a better move in this situation is to go all in before the flop. You have opened the pot and puts a little tougher decision on the other player. Also could have just called to see a flop cheap. However I don't always like this decision. but unfortunately the call or the raise before the flop probably will cost you more chips. He may have had the nuts to begin with.

Fold preflop, and it isn't even close. People open raising in ep for 3X with mid pocket pairs in late stage satellites is the reason I win a lot of satellites. Wait for a MUCH better spot to risk any chips. As played, you must fold to the re-raise.
