Default Re: uNL Hand Reading Practice

im bored, why not. grunching

hand 1
---
2 pair A9 and +, any set, sometimes a draw like KcJc or JcTc

hand 2
------
44-55 seems right. i doubt youd 2 barrel 33...77 may be possible...

hand 3
------
seems like a standard line for AK...though you could be pot controlling a Q like KQs and felt like he would bluff an A river...

hand 4
------
i really feel like you have AK here. bet flop for value, pot control semi bad turn, value bet river...44 is possible, though i dont know if youd c-bet that flop

hand 5
------
AK is possible but would you stack off deep? 77 is a real possibility...even JJ

hand 6
------
this is a pretty tough one...i dont know what youd limp behind 2 limpers though...with UTG being so deep i dont think youd limp behind a pocket pair...something like T8s, 86s, 7d5d or 9d7d sticks out to me

hand 7
------
i dont think youd call down with A high, or even a hand like K8s...i feel like youd want to pot control 99 or something, 77 perhaps...not real sure...

hand 8
------
seems like a middle pair like 88, since a JTx flop is really crappy to c-bet, and i doubt youd call with AK...

hand 9
------
if put you on something like 55-66, JJ+...20/16 probably isnt raising QJ UTG so seems like only PP

hand 10
------
id have to say a mid pp. 55-99. maybe KK-AA, but id prob fold to that shove...

hand 11
------
seems like only 3 reasonable hands...33,66,KQ...

hand 12
------
this is about the same as hand 3...probably AK is msot likely...KQ? maybe some tens like AT

Default Re: uNL Hand Reading Practice

I'm bored at work, so I'll give this one a shot.

Hand 1

Full Tilt Poker, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

CO: $52.45
Hero (BTN): $64.50
SB: $124.85
BB: $59.95
UTG: $36
MP: $106.25

Pre-Flop: XX dealt to Hero (BTN)
3 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB folds, BB calls $1.50

Flop: ($4.25) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB checks, Hero bets $4, BB calls $4

Turn: ($12.25) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB checks, Hero bets $10.50, BB raises to $30, Hero raises to $58.50 and is All-In, BB calls $23.95 and is All-In

River: ($120.15) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Your range preflop is atc, and on the flop also, your range is very wide. But once you bet the turn, if I am villain I c/f most hands like TT to you because I think double barreling this board is pretty ballsy/dumb, as so many hands will float/continue on this wet turn. So when you bet and shove I'll be putting you on at least TPTK, but more like AQ or a strong draw like KJcc. Once you shove your range is: AA/QQ/77/99, AQ/A7, KJcc and very very rarely a pair+fd like 76cc. I'd need 2pr+ to call and it wouldnt be a fistpump.

Hand 2

Full Tilt Poker, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

SB: $56.25
BB: $29.75
UTG: $52.40
CO: $49.85
Hero (BTN): $52.05

Pre-Flop: XX dealt to Hero (BTN)
UTG folds, CO raises to $1.75, Hero calls $1.75, SB calls $1.50, BB folds

Flop: ($5.75) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 Players)
SB checks, CO checks, Hero bets $4.50, SB calls $4.50, CO folds

Turn: ($14.75) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $11, SB calls $11

River: ($36.75) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB bets $15, Hero raises to $34.80 and is All-In, SB calls $19.80

Results: $106.35 Pot ($3 Rake)

You have 44,55,54,68 or a tricky AA. Your turn bet is not a bluff.

-----

Hand 3

Full Tilt Poker, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

SB: $50.75
BB: $55.95
UTG: $58.75
MP: $48.70
Hero (CO): $72.20
BTN: $50

Pre-Flop: XX dealt to Hero (CO)
UTG folds, MP calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2.50, 3 folds, MP calls $2

Flop: ($5.75) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero bets $4.50, MP calls $4.50

Turn: ($14.75) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero checks

River: ($14.75) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP bets $13.50, Hero calls $13.50

The size of the river bet makes this pretty interesting because villain's reads become important, but your range here is wide. You dont have a flush or you would have raised, and your range is wide seeing as you raised from the CO. So imo you can have any set, any 2pr, Qx, maybe Ax, or a super thin bluffcatch with a hand like TT.

Hand 4

Full Tilt Poker, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

SB: $52.90
BB: $38.85
Hero (UTG): $50
CO: $135.35
BTN: $75.75

Pre-Flop: XX dealt to Hero (UTG)
Hero raises to $2, 2 folds, SB calls $1.75, BB folds

Flop: ($4.50) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $4, SB calls $4

Turn: ($12.50) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero checks

River: ($12.50) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $8, SB calls $8

This is pretty tough actually. Its really hard for me to put you on a good hand with that turn check, I feel like you would have bet for protection there, so I think you are bluffing the river. Almost all hands which would be betting for value on the flop have a mandatory turn bet - KK, JJ, 33, KQ, KJ, AA, QQ - they all have to bet the turn. So wtf do you have? I think its like 44, random hearts (did you raise 76s utg?), a SUPER thin bet with TT (why not just check behind) or else you just bet TT as a bluff to get him off Kx/Qx. FWIW I think you lost this sd because I would have looked you up too...

Default Re: uNL Hand Reading Practice

grunching hands 1, 2, and 8 (i wanted to do 3 but i don't like hand 3 right now, i need a little more time with it)

1: AJ-AK, 77, 99, QQ, AA- you're going for a second street of value on a draw heavy board, so you can probably assume that AJ-AK are good here. I include 99 because this is a pretty good flop to cbet at in a HU pot.

2: 44, 55, AJ/AQ - though in order to include that last two hands, I'd need some kind of read on the CO - is he raising light? Is he apt to continue with a wide range of hands on the flop? These things matter for me to consider whether or not you'd continue with those hands, and bet with anything less than a set/top pair here.

Hand 8: I don't see why you'd make this play with anything other than 77-99. I figure you raise all PPs utg, and I assume you're checking that flop because you believe it's going to be tough for you to continue if you face any resistance on a draw heavy board - would he be calling with a draw? A lone T? Either way, you wouldn't be happy about it.

ok I lied, I'm doing one more.

Hand 5: You have 77 or JJ, maybe AA if you're trying to get deceptive with the SB. You're usually calling $3.50 more with effective stacks greater than $75 for good set odds.

This was a great exercise, thanks AJ. Personally I only went 6 for 12, so I could stand do this a few more (read: LOTS) times.

Could we do this again, with the following change: Only unveil each hand street by street to see how we narrow our range through the exercise. I found myself coming to my conclusions in the end, knowing how all 3 streets were played. In reality we do it street by street, not knowing whats coming, and sometimes throwing out hands prematurely and not reconsidering them later. In this exercise you could also include hands that did not go to showdown, as we would not know how likely you were to fold on each street.

Just my 2 cents, but thank you again for all the time and effort you put into this.

Well, what i guess i could recommend is...Open up one browser window with the OP in it. Open up another tab with your response post in it. Then just scroll the OP so that you can only see it one street at a time, typing up your street by street thoughts in your response in a different tab. I thought the posts in this thread that did the thinking out loud and narrowing of the range street by street were awesome. And those guys probably got the most out of it because that's how you are actually thinking at the tables.

And that's a good idea about including non-showdown hands too. I'll probably do up another one of these eventually.
