NL 50 - Overpair kings against likely TAG
UTG is 16/12 in a very small 40 hand sample. Opponent is not likely to have any solid reads on me too as I just sat down. I smelt a rat with his mini flop donk bet so I didn't raise the flop fearing a 3-bet from AA (and other hands) and wanted to re-evaluate on the turn and river while keeping the pot size under control. With hindsight, I probably should have 3-bet the flop as this makes it easier to play the later streets. Any opinions on this hand?

Re: NL 50 - Overpair kings against likely TAG
170bb effective stacks make this a much tougher hand. I'd be more worried about a set on the flop than Aces, but there are people out there who never 3-bet AA, so it's possible. I don't see how you can not raise the flop here. You gain value from TP, TT, JJ, QQ, which will all at least call here. I think I would call a re-raise and the check call reasonable sizes the rest of the way.

RR Flop, he might be going for pot control here, raise it up to see where you're at. He knows what you have, and assumably enough sense to play accordingly, you should fold the turn if you decided to play it like this.

Don't you find these small bets are usually him trying to draw cheaply or test you out with a marginal hand. You probably lost the minimum but I am not sure you don't have the best hand. A PS raise here will let you take control of the hand and better see where you are at. If he reraises - I fold. If he calls and leads turn I fold.

Raise FLOP and if he goes all in you can think of folding.
If he calls and leads TURN you can fold. If he calls and checks TURN I'll check behind |

Re: NL 50 - Overpair kings against likely TAG
I tent to treat $1.50 bets into $16 pots as checks, and I would just c-bet 2/3 to 3/4 of the pot and go from there.
If he raises, it's just a c/r, as opposed to a 3-bet, but maybe a little scarier. Either way, raise the flop and let him think your willing to play for stacks, which you may or may not be willing to do. By calling behind, you let him take away your positional advantage for $1.50, that's foolio. |
