no-hitters are incredibly achievements, they aren't milestones though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Milestone: Ryan Howard's 100th homerun came this year.

MikeyPatriot,

I am not being a nit and there isn't anything to disagree with. 500 HR's, All-time HR record, 300 wins etc. are "milestones" accomplished over the course of a career.

No-hitters, perfect games, the cycle (more rare than no-hitters)--are all incredibly difficult but it is something that comes together for one game...not something accumulated over the course of an entire career.

They are very different from each other. This is also why you may not recognize every name that has thrown a no-hitters but everyone that reaches milestones are recognizable.

milestone "a significant event or stage in the life, progress, development, or the like of a person, nation, etc."

Throwing a no-hitter, etc. is a pretty significant event in a player's career.

Even if you disagree with that definition, it's fairly obvious what the spirit of the thread is.

jimmy rollins set the ab and pa records

[/ QUOTE ]

I just heard today that he had over 700 AB. That's incredible. Has anyone ever had 700 before? Rollins finished with 716.

He had a remarkable year and is certainly the leading MVP candidate on his team over Howard and Utley. For what it's worth, Holliday would still get my vote.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't mean this as a knock on Rollins but making a run at the AB record is meaningless. It basically says Hey I'm a leadoff hitter who doesn't walk and stayed healthy all year.
Juan Pierre had 699 least year.

The PA record is a team accomplishment.

Its funny that the posters I personally think are terrible then turn out to be the guys who hate A-rod and Bonds.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's funny how the only people I know in real life that actually like Barry Bonds are complete douchebag a-holes.

No offense taken though. For what it's worth, I completely appreciate how great both of those players are. I just hate them. That's all.

[/ QUOTE ]

Since you don't know me in real life, no problem.

I honestly cannot imagine why you would hate a professional athlete who you cannot possibly know. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Mikey,

I do disagree a no-hitter or the cycle for example being a milestone. Many pitchers and hitters will attest that achieving either one of these has a ton to do with luck--some achieve the no-hitter w/o their best stuff etc...obv you can't throw a no-hitter w/o throwing great that particular day but it doesn't mark "significant progress or development" at all b/c a ton of pitchers have the ability to throw no-hitters but haven't for many reasons and luck is a big one. How many pitchers throw a no-hitter and then do nothing after? It doesn't mean anything other than you were great that day. 300 wins is achieved because of "significant progress and development" no amount of luck can account for it, you were great over and over for an extended period of time.

Verlander reached the milestone of 1 no-hitter.

What about a no-hitter doesn't qualify under the bolded criteria?

Mikey,

The first time I ejaculated was a significant event in my life but I wouldn't call it a milestone considering I was one of millions that ejaculated that very second. Your definition doesn't need to be bolded for your benefit and it also needs to be tinkered.

If you can't realize why you are wrong then I feel sorry for you. I am out of this thread.
