C-Bet = continuation bet

Full Tilt is an online poker website. Their ads sprinkle this page and others like it.

Thanks for your replies!
Could you perhaps give a little more depth to the c-bet definition?

I use pstars fyi

a c-bet is a bet that you make on a missed flop when you've raised pre-flop.

EX

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

CO ($26.55)
Button ($22.80)
SB ($14.80)
BB ($38.20)
UTG ($14.25)
UTG+1 ($19.10)
Hero ($30.55)
MP2 ($24.65)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.25, 1 fold, Hero raises to $1.1, 5 folds, UTG calls $0.85.

Flop: ($2.55) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $2.25, UTG folds.

Final Pot: $2.55

Results in white below:
No showdown. Hero wins $2.55.

generally speaking, c-bets are smaller (around half the pot) but mixing up bet sizes can be a good idea.

A c-bet is a continuation bet. If you raised preflop, and then bet on the flop you are c-betting. Because you led out preflop, and continued to bet on the flop.

It's generally used when you miss the flop but bet out anyway hoping to push the callers off of the hand.

That's how I understand it anyway.

The missed the flop thing is not essential to a c-bet, though it is often used that way. The important thing is that when the last riaser preflop is the first bettor on the flop, that makes it a c-bet.

Hmmm...I always took it to mean that you were betting solely on your preflop strength. Doesn't make that much of a diff.

Yeah, it basically is solely on your PF strength.

But if you were the preflop riaser and the flop comes J93 and you fire again on the flop, its usually called a c-bet whether you're holding AK or 99.

gotcha I appreciate you clearing this up for me, as I may have made some errors in evaluating my own cbet %. lol
