wtf... how is this allowed? Two different occasions at a real casino a couple weekends back. Somehow they let one keep playing while chatting although it took some serious prompting to get her to play in turn. The other had the decency to leave the table at the end of the hand.

That'd depend on what everyone else is doing. If everyone looks at their cards immediately you're gonna have a hard time looking at them all simultaneously lol. Meanwhile when action comes on you you'll have 9 people staring at you [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I always look immediately I reckon people who wait take themselves too seriously and literally do have 9 people staring at them when they eventually look. It's not like you're really going to get a tell by looking at someone look at their cards unless they're like retarded.

I normally wait to look. I have found it helps me to watch the action and figure out what I am going to do with different types of hands before I actually see what hand I have.

Been over the "wait to look or look right away" pet peeve before in other threads. I *HATE* people who wait to look and then take 10 seconds EVERY hand to decide what to do with 2 cards (mostly I hate this in tournaments, but if enough people do this in a cash game it'll drive me out--I *CANNOT* tolerate getting 15 hands/hour out).

I also happen to think it's REALLY dumb to wait exactly because ALL eyes are on you when it's your turn to act. Yeah, you're looking around the table trying to watch 9 people simultaneously look at their cards--good luck with that--and then 9 people are ALL staring at you when it's your turn. Who do you think is getting more info? I myself look neither right away, nor do I wait. I try to pick a spot in between when nobody is watching me.

I just thought it was standard to wait to look. I'm only 20, never been in a cardroom before, though. I'd be interested to hear the consensus on this.

Yeah, I've never understood people that don't do this. Since most people look right away watch everybody. Then, before the action gets to you look at them. You see the people that look right away and you see the people that look when its on them AND YOU DON'T WASTE MY [censored] TIME!

When you're in early position, look right away as soon as you get your cards. If they're garbage just f'in muck'em (when its on you). If they're playable I don't mind people that pause to look around and see what other people are going to do. Pausing for a few seconds once or so an orbit is reasonable. Pausing every hand is just annoying.
