Default Re: Ever Been Threatened in a Card Room?

The last time I got into an actual fight I was in the 9th grade. The next day the kid I had fought with brought a gun to school. No he didn't bring it to shoot me, our fight was over and we moved on, but I got to thinking about what would have happened if he had the gun with him one day earlier,

Since that time i resolved to fight only if I was willing to kill or be killed. Since that time I haven't found anything inportant enough to fight about under those terms.

Standard.

You meet some of the greatest people in cardrooms. It attracts the upper crust of society.

This is one of the fun things they just don't show on TV. That and the drug deals in the bathrooms. Or the addicts at the bar waiting for anyone to lend them money.

Don't be scared of him, let him hit you and then collect some money!!! Whenever someone wants to fight me I say "you go right ahead and throw the first punch so I can take everything you own." Typically, if they value money at all, they realize they are dumb and let it go.

This reminds me of my days at Penn when the weanies from Princeton, who couldn't take a little good natured ribbing, would retort, "Oh yeah, well you'll be working for us someday."

But I have the last laugh now. I'm not working for them, and no one makes better Big Macs than I do.

One person in particular repeatedly indicates he wants me to choke to death on my own tongue. Good times.

C'mon. I only told you that twice. Not "repeatedly."

Exactly! And one day wiper will agree to step outside with someone like Jimbo who's packing, but who unlike Jimbo won't simply violate Rule #1 of concealed carry by showing it... he'll use it and that'll be that.

Funny thing about modern society. We don't have to physically fight to be first to pull a piece of meat off the carcass. And funny thing about modern society is it's not just fists and rocks now, it's weapons that kill from afar and which do a good job of removing size bias from the equation. Alas, a few Cro-magnons still operate in modern society.

Technically I didn't violate the rule. I never brandished my firearm, just opened my jacket and he saw the holster. I was always taught to only pull your weapon if you are willing to use it. In that case I wasn't prepared to do so unless the desired effect wasn't achieved.

The 2nd was actually funny, Dale is one of the most calm and nicest people on earth but the drunk getting in my face knew enough to shut up.

Point him out to security. Mention the date and time this happened. Valet. Problem solved.

I hadn't until today.

Head to the local place for a little 2/4 this morning but nothing was happening, so I put my name down for the $40 NL tourney. I haven't played NL let alone a tourney in a long time, so I'm not too worried about it.

It ends up with three tables, and I'm sat with a pleasant older bunch of retirees which is fine by me. Until "Sunglasses" sits down.

That's what I mentally named him, and somehow I knew he was trouble. Maybe 25ish, track/jogging suit, NY baseball cap, 5-day stubble and wraparound sunglasses. Yessir, he thought he was the next WPT champion, but I simply inwardly smiled and played.

The very first hand he loses 90% of his stack to AQ when the guy holding it rivers a Q. He's seething.

I run hot for a few hands, raising all of them and taking them down without a flop. Then it's his BB and my button, and I look down at AKo. It's folded around to me, so I raise to a pot-sized bet, and he seriously goes in the tank.

To help him out, I say that we can just move to the next hand and he can bust me there, and he mucks, shouting that he's "been doing this a long time" and that I should show my "pocket jacks". Okay bud.

He doesn't let up, so I put on *my* sunglasses (upside down of course) and then kinda skew them a little, and get a good round of laughs from everyone - including him!

Fast forward about an hour. I get moved, he busts out, I move back to the original table and I bust out with JJ (the irony!). No biggy, put my name down for 2/4 and step out of the cardroom to go to the bathroom and Sunglasses steps out from behind a pillar and squares up to me

"Listen man, you call me out like that again and we're going outside and you ain't coming back..."

I honestly thought he was kidding, so I kinda blinked and said "okaayyyyyyy" waiting for the "hahaha gotcha kidding!" from him, but it didn't come.

Uh oh.

I told him I didn't want to go outside, especially over a 300 chip pot that in the end didn't even effect either of our placings, and he backs up a little saying "You gotta go outside sometime, man. You can't stay in here forever".

At that point security was called and he starts walking towards the nearest exit, then runs to it and runs out of the casino.

It's the only time this has happened to me and I will admit it's shaken me up quite a bit. I've seen this individual at this room a few times, always playing tournament (never cash games) and pretty much always wearing the same outfit.

Needless to say I will be playing somewhere else from now on.

you need a stiffer backbone. all young douchebags should be dispatched with quickly. really, no one cares if they come back to the poker room, so just call the floor and tell them to kick the punk out.

Yes...
I was sitting to the left of this really drunk maniac (raise ATC all the time). I had KK in one hand, he raise pf and I re-raised, he capped. We were heads up. We capped until the river which paired the board with a 2nd 2. He turns over 32o. I say to myself (too loud though ) that I would have played it the same way it the same hand came up again. He didn't like that. Oops. He is saying all kinds of strange things that no one understands. The table gets on him a bit, but nothing big. The floor comes over and tells him that people are complaining. He is the big fish at the table and I don't want him to leave. He has paid off big for me already and I'm sure he will again so I tell the floor the "he's ok." About 15 min later someone says something about a hand (I don't remember what, but nothing insulting). The maniac says, "If you fuuk me I'll fuuk you back." He repeats this a few times. I say to no one in particular, "At least he'll reciprocate." Bad move. He stands up and grabs an empty beer bottle and raises it a little. He is looking at the table to see if he can break it. It's padded so he raises it a little more as if to hit me with it. I am much bigger than this guy, but he is drunk and has a weapon, plus I don't want to fight anyone. I calmly tell him that it was only a joke and we are all just trying to have a good time. When the floor arrives with security he pretends that he picked up the wrong bottle and says that he was looking for his full beer to drink. That got the adrenaline flowing.
