What is the worst poker book ever written?
I vote for "Play Poker like the Pros" by Phil Helmuth. I had to stop reading on page two due to bad information. I can't believe I got ripped off like that.
Any other stinkers? |

Play Poker like the Pros is Pulitzer Prize compared to anything Ken Warren ever did.

Re: What is the worst poker book ever written?
Both are good nominations.
But we had a thread like this about a year ago I think that included some REAL winners that I had never heard of. Just bizarrely incorrect information. Makes Hellmuth's and Brunson's books look like 2+2 material. |

Re: What is the worst poker book ever written?
from pg. 135 of Play poker like the pros (I know, I know, but it was my first book and I was just starting and didn't know any better): "I opened the pot for 90,000 with 9-9...and Phil Gordon moved all-in for about 550,000 total. I called his 450,000 raise...I just knew that he was going to move all-in with a weak hand, and I was ready for him...He had 6-6...The flop was K-8-6 and his three sixes won the pot. If I had won this pot...perhaps I would have won my second "big one." My friend Andy, reading this book in draft, remarked that there's very little "perhaps" to it."
lol this gets my vote |

Re: What is the worst poker book ever written?
It has been said that Phil's books are almost not worth the paper they are printed on. I suppose these expressions arise due to the somewhat misleading title. But in the business of poker books, it seems any gimmick to sell a book will do.
But as mentioned, there are some really horrible ones out there. I like the one famouse phrase of not betting three of a kind in hold'em if 2 same suits are out because you may lose to a flush! |

Re: What is the worst poker book ever written?
Doyle Brunson has a book out called "Internet poker" I think. I flipped through it at my local Borders. It is by far the worst book ever released on poker. Previously I would have said Killer poker online by John Vorhaus but at least that probably took some time to write however stupid it is. Brunsons "book" contains no information whatsoever except how to download the software client and deposit money in your account. This thing probably took 15 minutes to write. I have lost any respect I had for Brunson after seeing that book.

I was trying to snatch a copy of Accuracy of Poker before the remaining copies were placed into the recycling bins. No luck.
