wow this fold is awful.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea I don't like folding here at all. 89s or 89o are going to be seen here just as much as the set. What about all the overpairs and draws also? Without reads there is no way this is ever a fold.

EDIT: Without strong reads.

Can't see why a solid player would 4-bet a set in position here. If I were him I'd have no pair, no draw about 100% of the time.

98? JT? TT maybe? call obv, u have a freaking set heads up

[/ QUOTE ]

Well one way to play sets heads up is to always play for stacks 100% of the time. I'm sure that's close to optimal. Optimal however is folding them some small % of the time when you know you are beat. This is the first set I've folded this way in 150K hands of NL.

CDC I certainly respect your game. Can you elaborate please? What is in his range that I need to call/push his 3-bet?

Krishan this sadly reminds me of a few of your limit threads.

errr, sorry to give you the curse krishan, but i think you played it very well.

spot on, well played.

you've established how strong your hand is, he isnt 4 betting with an overpair given how strong you've played it, only hand maybe 89s, but thats still much less likely compared to set 8s or 9s.

I'm glad it's possible to see it my way.

Alright, there are a lot of people saying my flop 3-bet stinks. I can accept that it lets weak made hands off cheap. However when he comes over the top you need should agree that his 4-bet is superstrong. Overpairs are not 4-betting here. They are folding. That's why you guys are saying my 3-bet is bad. So you can't justify my fold as bad by saying he could have AA when you also don't like my flop 3-bet. I think...

I agree. No matter what he has 4-betting given our relative depths is a mistake. We are going to get my last 500 all in on the turn pretty much no matter what.

But I thought he was more likely to get overeager with a set. And I thought why not take advantage of his mistake.

Haha, most of your limit threads were good of course, but some of your fold threads were way way way overthinking/giving too much credit to partypoker players, even seemingly solid ones.

This would only be true if the stacks were much much deeper. Iam pretty sure that if you play aggro enough you theoretically should go to the feel with AA here every time. Of course you dont because your opponents are not aggro and its easy to read them at that level. Still folding 33 in your hand look like big gift for the Villain.
