[/ QUOTE ] A lot of people are speculating that Belichick is in the last year of his contract with the Pats. No one really knows. Even if it is, though, I don't see him going anywhere else.

They're also a lot of speculation that Cowher will go to Carolina where he lives and Fox will be out. All speculation/rumor, for sure, but considering the coaches that were available and those they thought *might* be available, seems like making a change last year prob wasn't a great idea. Even if Fox/Belichick weren't available, knowing that they might have a shot at Fisher or Cowher next year seems worth waiting for.

His college career (meaning primarily his completion percentage and # of games started) suggests that, at his peak, he will be one of the better (though not one of the best) QBs in the league. Or, if you prefer a really simple analysis, he's a 26 year old league average QB without a significant injury history; QB's tend to improve slightly in their age 26 and 27 seasons, which means that by the time he actually plateaus, he'll be somewhat above average. You can win with a somewhat above average QB, so long as the rest of the team is sufficiently strong.

[/ QUOTE ] Eli improved from his first season into the second, and then did not show much improvement in season 3. He only has 2 full seasons as a starter, now entering his 3rd, he is still young and still has a ton of potential. He has shown that he can be an excellent quarterback at times but he has lacked consistency. We all understand the sunk cost concepts but I think you are failing to understand that he still has potential to become an elite quarterback and that does not necessarily translate into previous sunk costs. Last season Eli was fairly solid up to the point when Toomer went down. Toomer was the pretty much the number 1 receiver, leading the team in catches then. Toomer was placed on IR, 4th WR Moss also missed most of the season, opposing defenses double teamed Plex and then 3rd WR Tim Carter turned into a 2nd WR with special teams specialist David Tyree as 3rd WR. Tim Carter was useless. Shockey was playing hurt most of the season. This season, Carter is gone, Toomer was been very impressive and ahead of schedule in camp. Plex and Toomer will be 1 and 1A this year, Moss and 2nd round pick Steve Smith (who some how fell late to the Giants in that round) will battle out for 3rd and 4th WR spots. Most likely Smith will be 3rd, he has been very impressive camp. Eli will start this year with more options; if players stay healthy obviously Eli will be expected to improve. Will the Giants make it to the Super Bowl this season, I highly doubt it, but I don't think any team in the NFC East will. I don't think any of those teams should blow up the rosters because that.

I'm not going to bet against my own team, but a prop bet that Eli will have a lower completion percentage than last year is an easy one you non-Giant fans can win. Without Tiki Barber to catch screen passes, Eli will have to throw downfield more, which means less completions. Add in that Jacobs is less feared than Barber (maybe not for long), the loss of a decent left tackle (debatable), and the probable loss of speed to be suffered by Toomer - Manning will have a lower completion percentage. He's not getting better.
